Jacqueline Fernandez grew up in Bahrain, Manama. She is Sri Lankan and comes from an ethnically diverse background. Jacqueline's father Elroy is a Sri Lankan (Catholic Sinhalese) and her mother, Kim is Malaysian. She has two brothers and an older sister. Due to unrest in the country, her parents relocated to Bahrain in the early 1980s. Schooling was finished in Bahrain and she was awarded an Scholarship for the University of Sydney. There she was awarded an Media and Communications degree. The love of languages and cultures has led her to the Berlitz language school, where she improved on French and Arabic in addition to learning Spanish. In addition, she was crowned Miss Sri Lanka 2006 for Miss Universe 2006 on March 6, 2006 and was a contestant at Miss Universe 2006. The TV show she appeared on was founded after winning an award for the Miss Sri Lanka title. The show she hosts, Lanka Business Report, is about business in Sri Lanka. Padukone is the daughter of the famous badminton player Prakash Padukone. She was raised in Bangalore and born in Copenhagen. As a teenager she competed in badminton championships at national levels. But, she resigned from the sport to pursue a career as fashion designer. Padukone is of Mangalorean background, and her mother tongue is Konkani. Padukone, a village within the Kundapura Taluk located in Udupi located in Karnataka State of India, is where her ancestry is derived from. The father of her, Prakash Padukone, is a retired badminton player of global repute. Her mother is a travel agent.
